Since the kids are a bit older now I decided a game of outdoor Yahtzee or Yardzee would be the perfect game for us. And this game is super easy to make too! What you'll need: a 4x4 post (at least 20" long) chop or cut off saw mouse sander paint markers (makes painting the circles much easier!) a bucket to keep and throw your dice from a yardzee score sheet (you can find these on Etsy!) Start by measuring your 4x4 post. 4x4 posts are not exactly 4" x 4", so measure out how wide they actually are. Mine was about 3.5" on each side. Measure out 3.5" down your post and use your cut off saw to cut a square dice. After each cut, remeasure out 3.5" and make another cut. Cutting each dice one at a time is to make sure that each dice is the same length. I had an almost full length 4x4 post and was able to make 4 yardzee games with one post. Once you have all of your pieces cut it's time to sand down the edges. I used my little mouse sander to sand them down and so I could round the edges a little bit more, making them easier on the hands to hold. Now you need to add all the little circles to your dice. I didn't trust my free hand drawing, so I traced around a nickel to make each circle. Then use your black paint marker to color in all of your circles. The paint dries fairly quick, but do be careful to make sure that you don't set down a wet side on something that can get ruined by the paint. I found a cute little clipboard that I could keep all of my scorecards attached to. Then put your scorecards and dice into a bucket and you're ready to go! do i |
