I picked up this ugly serving tray type plate and knew I would be able to transform it into something new.  I wasn't sure how yet, but for $1.99 I knew I was going to find a way.

And I just love how it turned out!

What you will need:

a serving tray
some stainless steel cleaner
marble looking contact paper

Start by cleaning up your tray.  I used this stuff that I found at Walmart and it worked awesome!  Just follow the directions on the package.  Basically you rub some on and wipe it off.  I love it and it was super easy to use.

This tray looked a million times better just having had the silver all cleaned up.

Now it's time for the inside of the tray.  Take your contact paper and trace the bottom side of your tray onto the back of the contact paper.  Then cut it out and see how good it fits on the inside of the tray.  Depending on how your tray is shaped, you may have to trim down a little bit more of the edge.

Once you are happy with the size of your contact paper fitting inside your tray nice, remove the backing from the contact paper and stick it onto the bottom of your tray.  Take your time and apply it from the center to outer edge of each half of the tray.  If you get little bubbles that you can't get out, take a small utility knife and carefully pop the bubble and then press that area down until it has smoothed out.

Then it's time for some decor.  Right now I have mine placed on a side table in our guest room, but I'm sure in a month or so I'll get bored with it there and it'll move to it's new spot.
