Being a hairstylist and having 2 boys first I could not wait to put my daughters hair in pigtails, braids, etc. Of course when she finally got hair she did NOT want me to put anything in it. But now that she's older she loves having different types of hair styles and clips in her hair. Yay!! Lately she's been obsessed with big bows in her hair, but she wanted something different. We had brought some seashells back from our last beach vacation and knew one of them would make the perfect clip. What you'll need: hair clips wide seashell hot glue gun and glue Start by making sure your seashell is cleaned out if it hasn't been already. I soaked mine in a little bleach water for an hour or so and let it air dry. Then I took a little mineral oil and rubbed it all over the shell to help bring some of the natural color back to it. This next part will totally depend on the shell you are using. I wanted the clip of my hair clip to get attached to the opening of the shell since it would be a bit hidden and still allow the shell to lay flat. Start by filling up the void with your hot glue. Put some glue into the opening and let it dry. Continue to add more glue until the top layer of glue is just below flush with the edge of the shell. When you have enough glue inside the shell, add another thin layer of glue and then lay your hair clip into place. Add a big more glue around the edges of the clip and over top to make sure that the glue has completely surrounded the edges of the clip. Once it's dry, you're ready to wear it! diy |
