So when we adopted her, the first thing we wanted to do was find some cute clothes. What you'll need: old pair of leggings scissors We very quickly realized that dog clothes is expensive so we had to get creative. One day my daughter was bringing down her clothes that didn't fit and she had sooooo many pairs of leggings. Some were in too rough of shape to donate, but I wanted to find a way to repurpose the material. Ah ha! Dog shirts! And if you don't have a bunch of pairs of leggings, check with friends who have little ones or head to your local thrift stores. We stopped at a Goodwill store and grabbed a few pairs for $1.99 each. Now this will vary depending on the size of your dog, but luckily with 1 pair of leggings you will have 2 tries to get it right. ;) For reference, this pair of leggings was a size 10/12 in little girls and my pup is about 6 lbs. If your dog is bigger maybe try an adult pair of leggings. If your dog is longer, cut the material a bit longer. Just take your pair of leggings and get a general idea of the length to cut and then adjust accordingly. Once you have it cut to the right size you'll be able to use that piece as a pattern for all your other shirts :) It's hard to explain how to do this, so I've attached the pictures to explain it better. In the first picture, the head is at the bottom and the back end is at the top. This is how you will keep it tighter around the neck and wider and rounded at the butt. If your pup has a smaller head/neck area, start closer to the bottom of the leggings. If it's bigger, start up farther. The smaller circle is cut through both sides and will be the leg holes. Again, you will have to compare the leggings to your dogs size. Start with longer lengths so you don't cut it too small. Start with smaller circles so you get the leg holes the right size. Just a warning, you're gonna be hooked! We have made so many shirts for Hazel. She has one for every holiday and every season. And once your friends see your shirts, they're going to want some too! diy projectsWant more DIY's?
