How to paint on mugs, bowls and plates

These painted mugs makes the perfect DIY gift idea that you can paint and personalize however you would like and for anyone on your list!  And you can use them for all different things:  a pot for succulents, a candy dish, change dish or just to put on display.

What you will need:

a white mug, bowl or plate
glass markers or permanent markers

I found these specific glass markers at our local dollar store.  You can also use permanent markers and then "bake" your finished piece.

Then just start drawing on your mug.  You can sketch out a design on paper first if you are nervous to get started because the markers are permanent once they hit the mug.

You can draw pretty designs, write on inspirational sayings, paint on a pretty scene...whatever you can think of.  The options literally are endless.

My mug is very large and I planned to use it as a planter for my baby succulents, so I drew on some pretty flowers.

If you use permanent markers instead of glass markers, there are many different ways to "bake" them to make them more permanent on the mug.  My daughter did her bowl using sharpie markers.  I set the bowl inside a cold oven, turned on the oven to 250*F and then set my timer for 40 mins.  Once the timer went off I turned off the oven and let the bowl remain in there until it had cooled completely.

These are such a fun and easy craft that anyone can do!
