This post may contain affiliate links. This DIY was so much fun for me! I'm not sure why, but I think because it was so cheap and made such a huge impact on my outdoor holiday decor. These turn out quite large (about 2.5' wide) and look so cool hanging from the porch or from trees - wherever you put them. Plus they didn't take too long to assemble either, so let's get started! What you will need: 16 plastic clothes hangers 4" white zip ties To make these snowflakes, the easiest way to explain the process is you need 2 hangers at a time. Put them bottom end to bottom end with the top hanger part facing the same direction. Then zip tie them together. Repeat this to all of your hangers so that you end up with 8 sets of hangers. All of them need to be identical - end to end and with the hanger part all facing the same way. Then you need to take 4 sets and lay them out into a similar pattern that I have done below. Once you have your 4 sets in this pattern, use zip ties to start attaching them to each other. This is now one half of your finished snowflake. Now take out your last 4 sets of hangers and repeat the same procedure of attaching all of those sets together to make another half of a snowflake. Then lay one half of the snowflake on top of the second half of the snowflake in an off center way to create your finished snowflake look. When you have it in place begin to zip tie the 2 halves together to make it more sturdy. I then used some twine to hang my finished snowflakes from some of our trees and from our front porch, but you can hang them anywhere. You can also make some with different types of hangers or attaching them together differently. You could also make some using baby hangers to get a variety of sizes of snowflakes. Add some spray paint to them if you want them a certain color or add some real snowflake decor to them. They are so versatile! do it yourselfWant more DIY's? |
