![]() This post may contain affiliate links. When we bought our home we had a few very old and ugly ceiling fan that needed to be replaced. Of course I couldn't just throw it out, so I saved all the blades (and their screws) and the glass shades. I immediately reused the glass shades into these beautiful solar lights for our garden path, but wasn't set on a use for the blades yet. After a trip to our local Habitat ReStore shop I found a stair spindle and knew that was the last piece I needed to craft something with my fan blades. You will need: 4 ceiling fan blades wooden spindle 8 screws drill a "head" for your dragonfly - I found a big knob with a screw already in it at the Habitat ReStore also. spray paints in your choice of color clear acrylic spray sealer ![]() Start by painting all of your ceiling fan blades and your spindle or wood. I used spray paints to paint all the different parts of it. Once your paint has dried, follow up with a clear acrylic spray sealer to help protect the paint a bit more if you plan to keep it outside. ![]() When everything is dried you are ready to put it all together. Determine where you want your blades to go on your spindles and mark the spots on your spindle. ![]() Once you have your blade placement determined, screw the fan blades into place on your spindle or piece of wood. ![]() ![]() I found this fun knob with the screw already in place so I decided to use it as my dragonfly head. I just predrilled a hole into the top of my spindle and then screwed the knob into place. To hang it up on my fence, I used a small screw put in the back and wrapped some wire around the screw, leaving a little loop on top to hang it with. ![]() do it yourselfWant more DIY's? |
