When we got our little Hazel we wanted to take her to many new places to expose her, but since she was so tiny I didn't always want her walking on a leash (cute little dogs = a lot of attention from people and she was very nervous of new people). I had a canvas bag at home and knew it would be perfect to repurpose it into a bag for carrying Hazel along with us. What you'll need: a canvas bag that will fit your furbaby (my bag is approximately 12" x 14" x 5") scissors hot glue and glue gun scrap cardboard and material I decided to tie dye my plain white canvas bag. You do not have to. You can leave it plain, paint on it, add decals to it or decorate it however you want it. You may need a second set of hands for this first part. I put my pup inside the bag and then marked the opening area where if she were sitting and standing, her head could stick out without any of her body being exposed. With the bag laying flat, I cut from the edge in 3 inches and from the top I cut down 2". This worked perfect for Hazel's size (she's a 6 lb chihuahua poodle mix). Then where those 2 cuts meet, I cut about a 1/2" slit into the bag. This is so you can fold it inside and make a nice edge. Fold your cut edges in and test to see if the height and width is good. You may need to retrim one or both sides of the cut edges. Once you are happy with the opening, use your hot glue gun to firmly glue that cut edge inside the bag to make a nice edge around the entire cut lines. Then to make the bottom sturdy, I took a piece of cardboard and cut it to fit the inside bottom of the bag and then covered it with some fabric. By covered I mean I cut a piece of material slightly larger than the size of the cardboard and hot glued the material to the underside of the cardboard. Once it's all dried it's ready for your furbaby. Please do not use this for larger dogs/cats/animals or ones that are too heavy to be carried with more than one hand. Please also do not use this if your pet likes to jump out. If he/she does, you can sew on and make a sort of tether that can attach to the bag and then clip onto his/her collar. Otherwise, let's go shopping! diy projectsWant more DIY's?
