They live out in the country with plenty of deer running through the yard, but no antlers have ever been shed where I could find them. I brought them home and debated on what to do with them, but finally settled on making a jewelry organizer. And if I get sick of them holding my jewelry, I'll set them on a table by the front door and they can hold keys and other misc things. What you will need: some shed deer antlers pieces of wood (stained or painted if you wish) screw(s) Start by making sure the antlers are cleaned. I let mine sit in a bucket of bleach water for a bit to make sure all yuck stuff was off of it. Then you will want to make sure that the bottom of the antlers has a smooth edge so that it will nicely attach to a piece of wood. I used a hacksaw and just trimmed it to be more flat and even. Next take your piece of wood and predrill a hole where you plan to attach your antlers. I attached mine to a corner of the board so that the antlers would be centered over the board. Then predrill a hole (or holes) into your antlers as well. I had planned to drill in 2 screws, but after putting in the first screw the antlers were very secure to the board so I didn't need to add another screw. Then screw your antlers to your wood and you're all set to go! do it yourselfWant more DIY's? |
