My daughter wanted to make a little bowl for little trinkets for in her room, so we decided to make air dry clay bowls. And my kids have been begging to try the pour technique for painting and this was the perfect way to do them both! What you will need: air dry clay rolling pin plastic knife for cutting out clay acrylic paints a bowl for drying clear acrylic spray sealer Start by taking some clay and rolling it out. We rolled ours out to about a 1/4" thickness. Then cut it out. My daughter and I used a small bowl as a template and my son used one of my hosta leaves. Next you need to wait for it to dry. Ours took about 3 days, but it was so humid in the house that they seemed to always feel tacky. I did end up putting them in the oven when it was warm, but turned off just to help get the leftover wet out of them and that seemed to help. Once they are dry you can paint them however you would like. We did the pour technique and had so much fun. If you want to try it, take a small cup and layer in different colors of paint that you want to use. Then there are many different ways to do it, but you will basically dump over your cup onto your bowl and tip your bowl in all directions until the paint runs and covers all of it. Then wait for your paint to dry. I gave ours bowls a coat of clear acrylic spray sealer just to protect it a little bit. We are so happy with how they turned out! do it yourselfWant more DIY's? |
