Remember those old wooden triangle boards with the golf tees stuck into little holes where you "jumped" them and had to try and be left with the least amount of tees?  I used to play that game all the time at my grandparents house and loved it.

I introduced my kids to the game and they loved it as well, so I decided to make my own "coffee table" version (one that was cute enough to leave out on the coffee table all the time).

What you will need:

some wood (I used pine)
speed square  (or ruler or straight edge)
drill and drill bit (I used 7/16)
sandpaper
wood stain or paint
14 marbles

I started by using my square to sketch on the basic triangle shape and then made marks for all of the spots that will hold my marbles.  After I had that sketched out I also added lines to where I would like to cut the excess edges of the wood off.

I used my cut off saw to cut the extra wood off and then used my drill and bit to make little dents into the wood to hold the marble.  After I had everything cut and drilled I sanded it all.  To sand inside of those little dents I wrapped a piece of sandpaper around the end of a sharpie pen so that it would fit inside of the dent better and smooth it out.  This worked perfectly!

Once you have everything sanded add some stain or paint and set it aside to dry.  I used  classic grey stain from Minwax - it's my favorite!

Once it's all dry it is ready for your marbles and to be played.  Remember that you only need 14 marbles, one less that how many holes you drilled.

Then see how good you are at your DIY jump-a-peg game!
