diy incense holder

When we lived in Arizona, my neighbor loved to burn incense on her back patio and she would put the stick right into the pot of a nearby plant.  It was such a great idea, except I don't have any potted plants on my patio back here in Wisconsin (too much shade, too many squirrels and deer, it's not worth the hassle!) so I decided I need to make a pretty incense holder that I could move around with me.

So I made a plumeria flower incense holder to add some incense and flowers to my patio.  :)

What you will need:

air dry clay
small bowl

Start with making 5 small balls of clay in similar size.  Round them out and then shape them into a petal shape (or whatever shape you're going for).  Each of my petals is about 1.5" long.  I made 5 petals that were similar in shape and then started to lay them together to resemble a flower.

Keep putting together all of your petals until they look how you would like them to and then carefully use your finger or a utensil to merge the inside of the petals to be a more solid piece.  Then carefully lay your flower inside of a smaller bowl and position it how you would like it look once it has dried.  Here gave it more of a shape and I bent the edges of the petals to give it a bit more movement.  Once you have it how you would like it, use an incense stick to make the correct hole on the inside of the flower and use tape or rubber bands to hold the stick upright and in place.  Let it dry according to your manufacturers directions. Once it has dried you can use some acrylic paint to give it some more color.  Then it's ready to enjoy.  Never leave it burning unattended!  :)
