When we adopted our African Grey parrot named Sidney he was instantly one of the kids and the human kids insisted he go everywhere with us.  That being said, he doesn't go everywhere with us, but when the weather is nice and I'm heading to school to pick up the kids Sidney gets to ride along.

But we wanted a place where he could sit and not be in the way or be distracting and this DIY car seat perch is perfect!

What you will need:

1/2" schedule 40 PVC pipe
(8) 1/2" pvc pipe 90* elbow fittings
(2) 1/2" PVC pipe caps
PVC pipe cutter
a roll of Vet wrap

Start by taking a few measurements of your car seat.  Measure from the back of the seat to the front of the seat.  You may have to make a few cuts adjusting your measurements as you want this part to slip over the seat, but yet still fit nice and tight.  Start out cutting your pipe a little longer.  You can always remove a little, you can't put it back on.  ;)

Then take a few more measurements depending on how and where in your seat you want the perch to sit.  I have included my measurements, just to give you a bit of an idea of how it fits in my car.  Keep in mind, when taking your measurements, the lenth of the pvc elbow that you will be attaching.  The lengths posted are the lengths of just the pipe.

Once you have your measurements figured out, use your pipe cutter or hacksaw to start cutting out those sizes from your pvc pipe.

Then take your pieces of pipe and fittings and put the entire piece together.  You can use PVC glue to glue it into place.  I didn't because with enough pressure I could push each pipe into the fittings and it was in there nice and snug.

When your perch is all put together it's time to add the vet wrap.  This is similar to an ace bandage, except that it will stick to itself.  Wrap the vet wrap around every piece of pipe that your bird may stand on.  This is to give a nice grip to your pvc pipe so that the bird won't slip off.

Then it's time to attach it to your car seat and take your bird out to see the sights!
